Cryptography  is the practice of hiding information by making and applying a secret key and  cryptanalysis is the practice of codebreaking or cracking the code. In this lecture some history of these topics will be presented explaining some ancient secret keys.  Modern cryptography partially belongs to the disciplines of mathematics,
computer science, and engineering. Among many applications of cryptography nowadays  we will present ATM cards, computer passwords, and electronic commerce.
