Microcourse

on

Computer-aid for study of differential and difference equations

Seventh Colloquium on the Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations
(Szeged, Hungary, July 14-18, 2003).

Date: July 18 (Friday) 2003, 14.00 – 18.00

Place: Computer room (air-conditioned!) at Dept. Medical Informatics

Conditions: Some practice with computers is required. The capacity of the computer room is restricted.
Maximal number if participant is 20 and 16
of them can work individually.

Program:
During the microcourse the participants will learn the very basic tools of visualization and
investigation of ordinary differential and difference equations in Mathematica with the help of
well-prepared modeling schemes.
Some topics concerned:

Elements of computer visualization
Elementary steps of the investigation of ODE’s: vectorfields, equilibria, solution, plotting solutions
and trajectories, animations

Advanced methods: phasemap experiments, Liapunov method

The participants will receive a CD-ROM that contains the projects used on this course and the complete
system of handouts and projects of the intensive courses Computer-aided mathematical modeling (for Ph.D.
students at
University of Szeged) and Computer Algebra I-II (for computational engineering students at
 Technische Fachhochschule
Berlin)
